He is named the only driver to win the Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona.

He celebrated his first midget car win at a 100 lap event that was held in Kansas City in 1957. He was 7th in the season point standings. He continued winning in many other midget car races until it became his lifestyle.
